Towards an Intelligent 5G Core: NWDAF-Driven Closed-Loop Dynamic Traffic Steering
This demonstration showcases Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) integration into a closed-loop decision system within the 5G Core, utilizing the OpenAirInterface 5G Core for dynamic traffic steering across multiple N6 paths. The system observes network performance with NWDAF, authorizes permitted Data Network Access Identifiers (DNAIs) via the Policy Control Function (PCF), and enables the Session Management Function (SMF) to make forwarding decisions enforced by the User Plane Function (UPF). A key feature is the ability to dynamically steer an active Packet Data Unit (PDU) session between N6 network instances without session re-establishment, maintaining UE connectivity and IP address consistency. The implementation includes DN performance analytics, policy-bounded DNAI selection, path evaluation based on rate and health, and end-to-end validation from the UPF.
