Extending Aether SD-Core with Six 5G Network Exposure Services
This integration combines the free5GC Network Exposure Function with Aether SD-Core, providing standardized interfaces for external applications to access 5G Core features. The release expands NEF functionality to include six application-facing services: PFD Management, Traffic Influence, AsSessionWithQoS, MonitoringEvent, ParameterProvision, and BDTPNegotiation, supporting traffic management, quality of service, and device monitoring. Validation occurred in a live 5G environment utilizing Aether SD-Core, srsRAN, and commercial hardware, confirming end-to-end policy request tracing and active user-plane metering. The implementation also resolves integration issues related to subscriber identifier translation and service discovery, enhancing network exposure capabilities for application-aware traffic handling. This work establishes a foundation for interoperable 5G networks and external application integration.
